Tanjore “Rice bowl of India”… is an incredible place of visit for not only to Indians but for foreigners too. In Tanjore you have lots of places to visit like the Brahadeeswara Temple, many palaces, museums etc The Big temple “Brahadeeswara Temple” has the tallest tower over the shrine. The height of the tower is 216 feet and its tomb is made of Bronze.

The walls are painted with portrayals of the Chola and the Nayak Kings, the deeds that they did during their supremacy over Tanjore. These paintings on the walls are compared with those in the Ajanta Cave Paintings. The inner shrine of the temple has a Bull shaped statue which is quite big in size which guards the shrine. The measurement of the bull is 12 feet tall, nearly 20 feet long and 8 and a quarter feet wide.

Not far from the temple and in the heart of the old tower lies the palace with vast labyrinthian buildings, enormous corridors, bit halls, watch-towers, moat, fort and courtyards. The palace was built by the Nayak rulers around 1550 A.D. and subsequently renovated and enlarged by the Maratha rulers of Thanjavur Apart from the temples, palaces… the other important and fascinating thing about Thanjavur are its paintings, the Tanjore oviyam is unique and colorful which catches our eyes.

These arts reveal the culture of Tanjore. And the paintings are the ultimate forms of expression of love of Godhead, truth, beauty and devotion. Hundreds of devoted artists from Tamil Nadu have kept alive this beautiful form of art and have brought about new innovations to it. The doll of Tanjore called the “thalai atti bombai” which can be found in everyone’s home.

Thanjavur Dolls-Also known as Dancing Dolls are very unique dolls from my state Tamilnadu... They are made of clay and painted in bright colors. The uniqueness of this doll is its head and body dance independently. The head, body and dress are 3 detachable parts and sway in a beautiful manner.
