It was a great turning point for the Sri Lankans for over a few years since. It was nightmare of war in each house, for few it was evacuation and for few it was death.

This region of Sri Lanka was formerly known as Ceylon an Asian country hanging on to India and lying on the Indian Ocean. The region is divided into Province: Central, north central, northeastern, northwestern, Sabaragamuwa, southern, Uva and Western. Some the major cities of Srilanka are: Colombo the capital city, Galle the traveler’s point, Kandy the spiritual heart of the country, Anuradhapura the ruins of the ancient capital and Jaffina the northern capital.

Climate & Terrain
Tropical monsoon and the northeast monsoon set in and affect only the east coast. The southwest monsoon mostly affects the west coast and the mountain regions only. The plains are Mostly low, flat to rolling plain with mountains in south-central interior.

Culture and People
The people here in the residents are called the SINHALESE who were migrants from the north India during the 3rd century and Buddhism is widely practiced in these areas, which was also introduced during the same time of the intrusion.

Getting inside Sri Lanka
Anyone from any part of the world is given the warm welcome into Sri Lanka butting through Colombo. The Sri Lankan airways and the Colombo airways provide all the possible entry to Sri Lanka and out. If your travel is by water, you can always take the Indian shipping line through Trivandrum that is cheaper than an Air travel to Sri Lanka.

Colloquial language
The local residents speak Sinhala while tamil and English are the other optional languages. It’s much more common in the beach and tourist areas. Most people in rural villages cannot speak any English, beyond a few simple words. Some people might not have the exact words of English but there is nothing to worry when you have a Translator to help you out.

The staple food of Sri Lankans is rice and curry - a massive mound of rice surrounded by various curries and delicacies. The inmates eat with their hands and this might look a little disgusting for the outsiders but it gives you all the liberation to eat when served with chicken and curry. Water is not advised for those new enteries but a glass of Milk can do wonders to your digestion. The Thambli is a coconut extract that will give a great refreshing experience.

Stay and Learn
Accommodations at Sri Lanka have changed its face over time and has recognized as the modern times of stay at Sri Lanka. The past decade has brought a major change, with the growth of villas, boutique hotels, and small independent and individualistic properties offering a huge array of choice. The local university offers short-term courses to learn Buddhist and Pali languages. Meditations can be found in the adjoining monasteries and in the local meditation centers.
