Cowon have now come with their latest touchscreen enabled multimedia player Cowon X7 which comes up with 160 micro drive, which means you need take things to your head before transferring data to your player. The player features a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth headphones support, built-in loudspeaker and Cowon's JetEffect 3.0 and BBE+ sound enhancement features.
Pros :
Mass storage space, superb audio quality, built-in loudspeaker, Bluetooth wireless headphone support, great audio format support, phenomenal Battery life
Cons :
Thick and bulky design, unimpressive display, no HD video playback, oddly placed controls, unintuitive UI, poor video format support, slow image gallery, proprietary USB cable, low max volume, FAT32 formatting restricts file transfers over 4GB.
Touchscreen enabled multimedia players have become familiar with the release of iPod touch in the market. Surprisingly Cowon has made few of those touchscreen enabled multimedia players. The multimedia players use flash based storage which have 64GB space capacity.
Design and Build of Cowon X7 :
The player looks massive in terms of size when compared to other iPod touch players. Is has a 4.3-inch display, the 160GB micro drive and the massive battery. The huge display has thick borders with the menu button and the loudspeaker below. The menu button in the player is not easy to use as the button is very flat and thin.
The volume control of the player is very inconvenient to use as their placed near the bottom of the player. Space available in the player is surplus but it still remains a mystery why Cowon chose to place the buttons where no man can access the buttons. All the buttons in the player is situated in an inconvenient place which also includes the power/lock switch.
The next thing which makes the player a disaster is the playback controls which most of ethe players from Cowon had, but the Cowon X7 lacks this feature. On the bottom of the player is the USB port which is covered with a thin plastic and the bottom also holds the reset button. The to be mentioned thing about the player is that the player has the 3.5mm headphone jack and charger port. The player also comes with a separate charger but the player does not charge over the USB :(
The thick and bulky design of the player makes the mobile a good one to hold in our hands. The built of the player is very solid and well built. The touch response of Cowon X7 just doesn't feel right and even though everything on the screen is large enough to be used with your fingertips.
Verdict of Cowon X7 :
Though the player is a touch screen multimedia player, the price is too high for it as it is really a disaster. The Cowon X7 is priced Rs. 17,500. Mass storage of the player (160 GB) makes it a good one to buy but the touchscreen interface isn't that much very impressive as expected. Display is worse.
