VideoLAN has launched the new version of its VLC media player, VLC 2.0 with a codename Twoflower. The VLC 1.1.x versions of the media player had millions of downloads, but was still criticized for lack of compatibility in certain operating systems and Browser versions.

The VLC 2.0 version has better features for faster performance in multicore processors, graphics processing unit (GPUs). Moreover, professional formats like HD and 10bits codecs can also be opened with the new version. The new version also supports BluRay disc playback, and but the full support is still under experimentation.



Another major advancement to be mentioned is the user interface which the company has developed for major operating systems like Windows, Mac and web platforms. Mac users will have a whole new experience with the VLC 2.0 Twoflower as it has new Mac extensions support and integration of the new Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Mac users an use VLC 2.0 in two colors, namely Lion Grey and QTX Black.

For the operating systems like Windows 7, Android, iOS and OS/2, the VLC 2.0 TwoFlower offers new video and audio outputs. The VLC 2.0 mediaplayer also has a new pipeline for delivering higher quality subtitles, videos, and new video filters which improves the video quality.

VLC 2.0 has fixes for hundreds of bugs and the web plugins have been reworked for better integration irrespective of different browsers and their various versions.
