Twitter, the social networking site has raised the ire of privacy advocates for admitting that they have been saving the Email addresses and phone numbers from its mobile users’ address books but the company claims that they will not store any such information about the users.

“Log Data: Our servers automatically record information ("Log Data") created by your use of the Services. Log Data may include information such as your IP address, Browser type, the referring domain, pages visited, your mobile carrier, device and application IDs, and search terms. Other actions, such as interactions with our website, applications and advertisements, may also be included in Log Data. If we haven’t already deleted the Log Data earlier, we will either delete it or remove any common account identifiers, such as your username, full IP address, or email address, after 18 months.”

The site also warned that the systems will be using the personal datas to customize the account with information like phone numbers and mail ids to make the delivery of SMS to your mobile phones.  The main thing to be noted is that the feature in Twitter which says Find Friends, also uploads all your mails ids from your mail, which means they have a copy of all your contacts and relating this to the 18 months, think vulnerability.

Carolyn Penner, spokesperson, Twitter quoted  “We want to be clear and transparent in our communications with users. Along those lines, in our next app updates, which are coming soon, we are updating the language associated with Find Friends — to be more explicit. In place of ‘Scan your contacts,’ we will use “Upload your contacts” and “Import your contacts” (in Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android, respectively)”

Nothing to worry, there is also an option to remove all your contacts from Twitter says the site. The privacy talks which is been going around has turned its towards the SNS for saving the private data of users. Twitter will be revising its privacy statement. Twitter isn't the first site to revise its privacy policies, recently Apple too revised its privacy statements.
