Spaniard Rafeal Nadal who is currently the defending Olympic champion has walked out of the 2012 Olympic games due to an injury issue which the tennis star did not disclose. His decision has made the competition open for other contenders.

Rafael Nadal has said in a press statement that he is not in a good shape to play at the London Olympic games and hence will not travel along with the Spanish team for the opening ceremony of the iconic sports event.

Nadal's injury first came to light when he canceled a charity match in Madrid on 4th July following injury in his left knee. Nadal has not played since his early exit in the 2012 Wimbledon Grand Slam losing to 100th ranked Lukas Rosol.

The Spaniard added that he has tried it best to hurry up with the fitness session,  but it did not work and hence he is leaving the space for other Spaniards who have better chances of winning a medal in the Olympic games.

Rafael Nadal was supposed to be the flag bearer for Spain at the 2012 London Olympic games. Nadal won the Men's singles tournament at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.
