Michael Phelps won his 19th Olympic medal surpassing the 18-medal tally of Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who was active in Olympics from 1956 to 1964, after finishing first in the Men's 4x200 meter freestyle relay event.

The silver and bronze were bagged by French and Chinese team respectively. Phelps took the final jump following his team mates Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and Ricky Berens. The three swimmers who made the start, gave a big lead for Phelps in the final jump, which was neatly finished by Phelps.

French star Yannick Agnel, Amaury Leveaux, Gregory Mallet, Clement Lefert, the group which won the 4x100m freestyle relay, won the silver. Hao Yun, Li Yunqi, Jiang Haiqi and Sun Yang were among those who won bronze for China.

Among the 19 medals won by Phelps, 15 are golds. Phelps won eight gold medals in Beijing 2008 Olympics, creating separate world record. Phelps also won two bronze in China.

Michael Phelps lost the 100m individual medley event finishing on fourth. Phelps took silver along with his team in the 4x100m freestyle relay losing to France and later equaled Latynina's record by claiming the second place in the Men's 200m butterfly event.
