Aadukalam

Aadukalam, a National award winning movie directed by Vetrimaran which has fetched Dhanush his first National Award is one among the top 10 movies of 2011 in Tamil. The film which also saw the debut of Tapasee Pannu, had music score by GV Prakash topping the music charts.

Kaavalan

This Vijay film which came in the beginning of the year was directed by Siddque that was a silent hit with Asin playing the female lead. The movie was released in Tamilnadu amongst some tough political troubles, despite became a hit movie for the romantic genre of the film. The movie which was the remake of a Malayalam movie was also made in Hindi in this same year and is also being made in Telugu.

Ko

KV Anand's Ko starring Jeeva, Ajmal, Karthiga, Pia Bajpai, with Harris Jayaraj's music was a run away hit in the first quarter of the year. The film's political subject which had the journalism touch to it, where Jeeva played a Photo Journalist had been appreciated by both critics and audience.

Deiva Thirumagal

Krishna (Vikram) and Nila (Sara) are two characters one would not have forgotten this year. This emotional drama directed by AL Vijay was one of the hit films which had the family audience enter the theaters. Though it was a remake of I Am Sam Hollywood film, the film was appreciated by the audience, especially Sara and Vikram's performances. The film's music by GV Prakash was an added factor for its success.

Kaanchana

Kaanchana which was Muni part 2, directed and acted by Raghava Lawrence with Lakshmi Rai playing the female lead, was a comedy mixed horror film that was a huge hit among the B and C centers.

Mankatha

Well Ajith's 50th Film, which brought Venkat Prabhu to the director's seat and had Ajith play the role of an antagonist than a protagonist that made the entire film highly anticipated in 2011 and the result also made Thala's fans happy.

Engeyum Eppodhum

First production by AR Mrugadoss and his assistant M Saravanan a debutant directing the film, this movie was a hit in its own right as this low budget movie was appreciated for its simple story and the way it was narrated.

The film which had multiple cast of Jai, Anjali, Sharvanand and Ananya had the story and its way of presentation to the audience stand as it speaking point for the film's success at the box office and emerges amongst our top 10 list of movies in 2011.

7aam Arivu

AR Murugadoss directed film that brought Shruti Hassan to debut in Tamil and had Surya playing a historical character (Bodhidharma) unknown to many was another most anticipated film of the year. Though it ran in to troubles over the portrayal of Bodhidharma, the film had thrown us some light on such a person who taught marital arts and introduced Zen Buddhism.

Velayudham

Another Vijay film of the year 2011, directed by Jayam raja with Hansika Motwani and Genelia D Souza playing the leads, this Diwali release was a hit commercially. Though it was a remake of Telugu movie Azad, which got criticism for Vijay's costumes were being copied from a Game called Assassins Creed, the movie managed to have a good opening and become a commercial success.

Mayakkam Enna

Selvaraghavan and Dhaush has teamed up yet again to give a successful film. The movie has GV prakash's msuic and Richa Gangopashyay playing the protagonist's role. The film's theme of following the heart and the performances of the leads had won a lot of appreciation.

The cinematography and the plot of the film, where Dhanush plays a photographer has received good response and the film is a hit amongst critics.
