Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey is directed by debutant Narayan Ragavendra Rao having Aari and Subha in the leads roles besides Balaji, Panchu Subbu and Tejaswini in supporting roles.

Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey story :

The story revolves around two main characters Ajay (played by Aari) and Jiya (played by Subha) and a coffee shop in which the two meet. Aari, who aspires to become a film director, gets financial aid from his friend and begins his own project. Jiya is a girl who has no interest in love and dreams of studying in Australia.

Once, Ajay happens to meet Jiya in a coffee shop and gets impressed by her. Ajay comes to know that its Jiya's birthday on listening to her phone conversation and surprises her with a birthday cake. Hours-long conversation takes place between them and the duo gets to know about each other well.

As the conversation goes, Ajay who develops feelings for Jiya, tries to confess his love, during which he understands that Jiya hates love and is in pursuit of doing higher studies in Australia. After the conversation, the duo part ways and Jiya, on her return to her home finds that she is love with Ajay. What happens next whether the duo join hands or fate pulls them apart from the rest of the story.

Minuses :

First of all, the film lacks a good reason for the characters Ajay and Jiya to fall in love with each other. Of late, certain movies showcase the love track as a small portion in a film's story, which have a separate story to unfold.

But in case of romantic love stories, there should definitely be a concrete reason, or a few justifications (at least) for the leads to fall in love, otherwise which the love story would fall flat. A mere conversation, that doesn't develop in future, being shown as a reason for Ajay and Jiya's love, doesn’t make sense.

Highlights :

Achu, who has scored the music for this film needs appreciation, as he has added the romantic flavor with the background score and through the songs as well.

Gopi Amarnath's cinematography stands tall especially in the song sequences.
