| Billa 2 Movie Review |
Ajith as David Billa in Billa 2, a prequel to earlier Billa, has finally hit theaters today (July 13th). The film directed by Chakri Toleti who made his Tamil debut with Kamal Hassan's Unnaipol Oruvan has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. David Billa manages to escape from the trap and this pulls him in to smuggling. Through this David Billa gets introduced to Shiva Chidambaram in Chennai and starts working for him. Another lift for Billa comes when a guy asks Shiva Chidambaram to make a drug deal. After Chidambaram's refusal David Billa volunteers to take up the deal and emerges successful too. This success in turn leads David Billa to Abbasi in Goa. Impressed with his work and attitude Abbasi hires Billa to work for him. Meanwhile a Russian weapon dealing gang asks Abbasi to release their weapon stuck up in Goa. Fearing Interpol, Abbasi refuses the offer which is taken up by Billa once again. After successfully completing the deal, Dimitri (from Russia) organizes a party for which he invites David Billa. During the party, David Billa signs a deal with Dimitri which irks Abbasi. In the meantime, Parvathy Omanakuttan, who is David Billa's sister's daughter seeks shelter with Billa. After his return from Russia, Abbasi and minister who is involved in their gang, questions David Billa on his secret deal and this makes Billa walk out of the gang. With the help of his friend David Billa takes up the Russian weapons deal. Difference of opinions between Dimitri and David Billa surfaces which causes trouble in the business and Abbasi on the other hand plans to kill Billa. David Billa kills Abbasi and emerges as a powerful don by taking up his place. Abbasi's supporters gets united with the Russian gang and corners Billa. Serious trouble begins for Billa when he gets arrested in a case. From all corners Abbasi's supporters and Russian smuggler Dimitri tries to finish things off and take up Billa's position. How David Billa manages to come out of jail and also out of the clutches of his enemies forms the thrilling climax. Highlights : Ajith walks out with the performer award without doubts. Director Chakri Toleti has made the most out of the Ultimate star right from using his style quotient, serious looks and onscreen persona. Among the technicalities RD Rajasekhar's cinematography and Yuvan Shankar Raja's adds strength. Yuvan Shankar Raja's brilliant background score has given the movie its perfect flavor. Yuvan's BGM, especially in serious action sequences and dialogue-oriented portions sets the right mood. RD Rajasekhar's lens work has thrown light on the efforts made for the action sequences and death defying stunts. Suresh Urs editing give the tale the right flow. Cons:
Verdict : An action packed Ajith-centric film, but surely not a better prequel.
