| Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal Review |
![]() Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal directed and produced by Elred Kumar has Atharva and Amala Paul in the lead. the film's music score is done by GV Prakash Kumar. The movie opens with a murder, where Atharva kills a guy who had been mean to his girlfriend Charu. We later get introduced to Ram (played by Atharva), a software professional who works for a software company and travels to Chennai for five days while stays in his flat in Bangalore with the love of his life – Charu (Amala Paul) in the weekends. He speaks to Charu over the phone while his stay over the week in Chennai. Interestingly Ram had to be in Chennai to welcome his company’s new CEO Latha (played by Amala Paul). Surprisingly Ram though knew that his new CEO is similar to his girlfriend does not react a bit, while Latha is surprised & shocked to see Ram. While Ram mentions about the similarity to Charu over phone, Latha though she already knew him, maintains to keep mum. Latha with the help of Chandru (played by Santhanam) tries to talk to her Ram, to find details about him. After a welcome party, she decides to get dropped by Ram in his car to talk to him, when somebody tries to kill them. After that incident, Latha asks his uncle Dr Rudran (played by Jayaprakash) to help her find out about Ram as she seemed curious about his reaction after meeting her. He hypnotizes him and gets to know the details of Charu, whom Ram explains of meeting over a project that he was assigned to, in Bangalore. When he works on the project, Ram falls for Charu and before the project presentation he wishes to express his love for her. In between Ram gets a call that his mother had passed away and he visits his native. Ram who is very close to his mother gets too dejected and goes to an isolation, which Charu changes and gets him to finish off his project. But here comes a twist. Charu gets kidnapped by two guys with whom she had trouble earlier (or Ram assumes so). We now get to know that Ram is suffering from delusion, where he assumes things and has created a world in his imagination, a world with his lover Charu. Which is why despite seeing the real Charu (Latha), he still thinks she is someone who resembles his girlfriend but not actually her. Charu or Latha (as she is now called), solves each mystery and finds about the girl whom he talks to on phone during the weekdays, but gets a shock when she sees Ram talking to his imaginative girlfriend Charu, who is in Ram’s mind but not in reality. The second half deals with the flashback of how Ram was attached to his mother and how he had tried to confide in on Charu as his world, after the demise of his mother, who had been his only hope of survival. The second half also has in store for us to see if Charu Latha gets back to Ram though she is soon to be married to Vicky her fiancé from US. Infact the only part that was justifiable in the movie was the flashback and Anupama as Atharva’s mother Meenakshi has done her part well. The climax fight scene, seemed dragging and silly, where Vicky’s ( Charu’s fiancé) friends try to kill Charu, while Ram tries to save her. While Atharva’s acting at certain scenes is appreciable, his voice is not cooperating in certain scenes. His emotional or love dialogues seemed a bit childish as his voice did not bring in the right feel. Amala Paul is slowly improving her acting skills we believe. Her emotions like shock ( on hearing about Ram’s trouble), surprise ( when she meets Ram whom she already knew) were not properly delivered. Amala also lacks a certain amount of spontaneity in dialogue delivery and is not at ease while emoting. Though the online story of the hero having delusion is good, the treatment could have been better. The editing is ok, while cinematography was good. The songs from GV Prakash's compostions are pleasing to hear with Thamarai's lyrics. Though two songs had untimely placing in the film and seemed forced, the picturisation of Oru Murai and Mazhai Pozhiyum were good. While Oh Sunanda and Sokku Podi were enjoyable, Kangal Neye was an emotional one. Rating – 2/5 Verdict – A delusional debut effort by producer turned director Elred Kumar.
