| Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Movie Review |
![]() Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead, directed by Shakun Batra, is hitting the screens for the Valentine Weekend, as a rom-com treat from Bollywood. We have seen a lot of romantic comedies in the west which exclusively hit the screens for the lovers during the valentine month with a lot of emotional, tear jerking elements added to make it a bit sentimental yet comical. One such attempt is Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, which though is said to be similar to What Happens in Vegas is not completely the same. The movie has a mix of romance, comedy and family bonding. Rahul Kapoor played by Imran Khan is an architect who aspires to make it big from the dreamy eyes of his parents, meets Raina Braganza, ( Kareena Kapoor) the charming, smart witty hair stylist who dreamt of becoming a Balle Dancer, who is completely opposite to him. Rahul who has lived his life in terms of his Parent's wishes falls for Raina. Rahul who loses his job as an architect, try to cover up from his parents (played by Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah) and looks for another job. Working in Las Vegas, Rahul meets up Raina during Christmas eve and the two meet up for a few drinks which leads to madness. Like in What Happens in Vegas the two wake up as a couple the next morning much to their shock. ( Well that is dramatic enough to say what the hell) Rahul and Raina tries to amend ways by getting annulled (remember not divorce), in the next few days without getting their parents involved. But what happens in the forthcoming days changes their lives. The two with their share of moments, arguments, laughs and togetherness become friends. So what happens finally do they remain friends or continue to be couple forms the climax. Though the film has a bit of the Hollywood film What Happens in Vegas, it also shows some simillarity to the Tamil movie Santosh Subramanium ( Telugu Bommarillu) and we also get to witness some moments between the lead pair that we associate to the more loved and never forgettable rom-com Jab We Met. What makes the film work slightly is its screenplay, Kareena Kapoor and her family members. The film's producer Karan Johar had mentioned that it would be like a Woody Allen styled film with importance stressed on the moments and the dialogues which happens on the move, rather than making things over dramatic. But it could have been even more lively. What is bit disappointing is when the two walk around the most happening party place like Las Vegas that too during the most important festive season of the year - Christmas & New Year, the surrounding does seem dull. More merriness and madness could have added to make their drunken act of getting married a bit believable. Though Kareena looked charming and adorable in her charatcer as always (yet best was her Jab We Met performance as Geet), Imran Khan still need to show some reaction. His vented up dialogue at the dinner table towards the climax lacked maturity in his acting. It makes us feel if Ranbir or even Shahid Kapoor could have justified such a scene mch better than Imran. The film's cinematography which has been shot in Las Vegas mostly looks stylish and visually looks rich. The film has been made to quench the multiplex audience and the urban youth might like it. Kareena and Imran's first time pairing, has worked in favor of the film. But, we wonder why good actors like Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak were wasted in such important roles, when they could have done justification to thier roles if their characterizations were written properly. While songs like the title track Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Autyji is good, other songs do not make a lingering effect. Rating – 2/5 Verdict – a time pass option for a romantic weekend if there is no other choice left. Crew
