Vettai which is released for Pongal competing with Vijay-Shankar’s Nanban has its own attraction as Director Lingusamy is back with Madhavan after 10 years, after their hit movie Run.

The film has a multi star cast, where Maddy and Arya play brothers, while Sameera and Amala play sisters and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Lets find out if the film has maintained the hype and curiosity that it had created.

Vettai Story

Vettai story revolves around a coward police officer Thirumoorthy (Madhavan) and his bold brother Gurumoorthy (Arya).

Thiru and Guru are brothers who grow up together and are very close siblings. Their father is a police officer who gets transferred to Thoothukudi, who dies before reaching there.

Now the opportunity of taking over his dad’s position falls on the two brothers, which finally is taken up by Thiru after much persuasion, though he is timid.

Thambi Ramaiya who works as a constable expect a brave cop to arrive their police station, but finally get to know that Thiru is the exact opposite of what they had expected.

Two local goons – Mari and Annachi, govern Thoothukudi. Mari who had earlier assisted Annachi, takes his own route to reach a powerful status in the district.

Amongst this we get introduced to Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy) and Jayanthi (Amala Paul) who are sisters. Their father had worked with Thiru-Guru’s father and is like a right hand. When Thiru’s father dies, he decides to marry off his first daughter Vasanthi to Thirumoorthy.

Thiru sends off Guru to see the girl and when he meets her, Guru gets to know that she is the one whom he had met earlier and had fought over with in given circumstances.

Despite that Guru realizes that this bold girl is apt for his timid brother and tries to marry her off. During the arrangement of Thiru and Vasanthi’s Marriage, Guru and Jayanthi romance one another.

Coming back to the local goon’s act in Thoothukudi, one of the local rowdy Mari kidnaps a Customs Official’s son. Guru saves the son but the goons and others mistake him to be the SI Thiru and the credit falls on Thiru’s lap for acing brave against the goons and he gets appreciated. Interestingly a tape gets recorded of this incident, which is the only proof that it is indded Guru who is doing it and not Thiru. The tape is now in the hands of Thiru.

Similar incident takes place with the Annachi’s Men when they try to smuggle some goods, when Guru as Thiru bashes them.

After the marriage of Thiru and Vasanthi, Vasanthi though initially hates Guru, she advises him to become responsible and take up a job. Amongst this, Guru gets kidnapped by the gangs of Annachi thinking that by kidnapping him, they can threaten Thiru, but Guru escapes from the clutches of he men. The men then realize that Thiru and Guru have indeed same fighting style and at that juncture, the audience breaks in to interval.

The second half deals if the goons get to know that it is Guru who is bashing them and if they get their vengeance paid through Thiru. Thiru who is a very fearful cop turns out to be a brave person with the motivations from his brother Guru and how the two brothers together fight the villains forms the rest of the story.

Vettai Review

The cinematography by Nirav Shah is good and the color of the film stands very pleasing throughout the film.

Madhavan’s acting is good and Arya who almost showcases his heroisms be it action, romance, brother sentiments scenes has done well. Madhavan and Ayra share a great rapport and looks so convinsing as brothers on screen.

Sameera and Amala as the naughty, bubbly and mischievous sisters add to the glamorous side to this commercial entertainer and have pulled their roles well too.

There is not much of a story, but the screenplay with a multiple casting adds to the film’s strength.

Though it makes the audience feel that we have already seen this, we still wait for what is going to happen next on screen mainly for the leads.

Maddy Arya intro song - 'Dham Dham' and Pappapappa' - Arya- Amala Paul's dance number are good, while the rest of the songs are plain simple.
