|Indian movies of Hollywood Inspiration|
There are a lot of movies, around the world which is inspired, from novels, real life incidents and even movies from other languages. Tamil/ Indian movies are also part of such inspiration of storyline, plots, or the idea. The idea, story or plot is changed to suit the Indian audience, by changing the screenplay, according to our viewer.
Its just not Indian movies inspired from Hollywood, but also from movies all over the world. Many Hollywood movies are also inspired from French films, Japanese films, documentaries, etc.
The movies released in Tamil have the plot inspired by some of the International movies. Here are some of the list of movies, for your reference which includes the list of Hollywood inspirations and the inspired Tamil movies.
Much was talked about the blockbuster A.R.Murugadoss directed Ghazini, which is being inspired by the Hollywood movie Mementos. It was made in Hindi with Aamir Khan, in the same name which was again a super blockbuster.
Sunflower, is the Hollywood inspiration for the movie Roja, directed by Maniratnam. The movie Sunflower also known as I girasoli (1970), directed by Vittorio De Sica, is about an Italian woman conducts a desperate search for her husband, a soldier considered missing in action in Russia - like fifty thousand others during WWII. Maniratnam's Roja is also about the woman's search of her husband, in Kashmir, but teh only difference is that the guy is not a soldier.
Another Maniratnam's famous movie Ayutha Ezhuthu is also inspired from a mexian movie Amores Perros, which is about a horrific car accident connects three stories, each involving characters dealing with loss, regret, and life's harsh realities, all in the name of love.
Similar is the case of the Tamil Ayutha Ezhuthu, in Hindi Yuva, about Three people, who gets united after an accident, or rather an incident, made to be an accident.
Mani Ratnam's most appreciated cult film, Naayagan is also inspired from the Classic Hollywood movie God Father, after which the gangster genre came in to being. In fact Ram Gopal Verma has leashed out many movies of this genre from the Hollywood Classic inspiration for the God Father series. His Sarkar, was also one such inspiration!
Gautham Vasudev Menon directed Pachaikili Muthucharam, is an inspiration from the Hollywood movie Derailed, which was also taken in Hindi as The Train.
Kamal Hassan's Thenali, directed by K.S.Ravikumar, is also inspired from the movie What about bob, directed by Frank Oz, is about a successful psychiatrist loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, a highly manipulative obsessive-compulsive, tracks him down during his family vacation.
Kamal Hassan's much appreciated performance in Avvai Shanmughi is also an inspiration from the movie Mrs.Doubfire and the character portrayed by Robbie Willaims.
Kamal Hassan's Panchathanthiram, again directed by K.S.Ravikumar is also inspired from the Hollywood black comedy movie Very Bad Things (1998), directed by Peter Berg which is about a prostitute, who is killed during a bachelor party and the attendees turn on each other as the wedding approaches.
Kamal Hassan's another appreciated movie, Guna is also an inspiration from the movie Rain Man, directed by Barry Levinson, which stars Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Selfish yuppie Charlie Babbitt's father leeaves a fortune to his savant brother Raymond and a pittance to Charlie and they travel cross-country.
Munna Bhai MBBS or Vasool Raja MBBS, the remake of the Hindi blockbuster is again an inspiration from the Hollywood movie Patch Adams, directed by Tom Shadyac, which portrayed Robie Willaims as a medical student in the 70's who treated patients, illegally, using humor!
Kamal Hassan's Anbe Sivam, is also a film inspired by the Hollywood movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which is about a man must struggle to travel home for Thanksgiving, with an obnoxious slob of a shower ring salesman his only companion. Kamal Hassan's Mahanadi is also said to be inspred from the movie Hardcore,, which is about a conservative Midwest businessman, played by Paul Schrader, who ventures into the sordid underworld of pornography in California to look for his runaway teenage daughter who is making porno films in the porno pits of Los Angeles.
The last year acclaimed movie Yogi, which had director Ameer as the Hero, is a remake Totsi, directed by Gavin Hood. The film is in turn is an adaptation of the novel Tsotsi, by Athol Fugard.
Other movies like City is God, an award winning movie is aid to be the inspiration of Pudhupettai, directed by Selvaraghavan. Brewster's Millions (1985) movie is said to be the inspiration behind superstar Rajinikanth starrer, Arunachalam. The movie is about a minor league baseball player, who has to waste $30m in 30 days in order to inherit $300m; however he's not allowed to tell anyone about the $300m deal.
Upcoming Tamil movie Vaanam, which is again a remake of Telugu hit move Vedam, is a story of the Hollywood movie Powder Blue, while certain claim it to be a story similar to another award winning Hollywood movie Crash. Powder Blue is about four Los Angelenos -- a mortician, an ex-con, a suicidal ex-priest, and a stripper are brought together on Christmas Eve by a mixture of circumstances.
The recent blockbuster sci-fic entertainer Endhiran by Shankar, starring Rajinikanth, is said to be an inspiration too! Yes Bicentennial Man, by Robbie Williams which also has the same plot of an android endeavors to become human as he gradually acquires emotions.
