Maatraan Music Review

Maatraan music was highly anticipated as it sees the combination of KV Anand-Harris Jayaraj-Surya after the huge success of Ayan, Surya-Harris after the hit album of 7aam Arivu and Ko with Harris-KV Anand's combo.

The Music Release event was a grand star studded event held in Singapore on the 9th of August 2012.

Song - Rettai Kathirae
Singers - Krish, Balaji, Mili & Sharmila
Lyrics - Na Muthukumar

'Rettai Kathirae' is said to be the introductory song of Surya in the film who plays Saimese Twins (Conjoined Twins). The beginning portions of the song does seem similar to the introductory song of Surya from Ayan. The lyrics does give a clue about the hero's twin portrayal in the film.

Song - Naani Koni
Singers - Vijay Prakash, Karthik, Sherya Goshal, Shekhinah Shwan Jazeelv
Lyrics - Viveka

'Naani Koni' the second track is the pick of the album and a relief to hear Vijay Prakash sing for Surya and Shreya Goshal's melodious voice does captivate your ears. A feel good romantic song that will surely rock the charts. This song has also been used in the promos of teh film.

With Karthik singing for the twin Surya, it indicates that the other Surya is also in love with the heroine Kajal Agarwal! Usually harris-Karthik-Surya combo songs had been chartbusters and always works to become a hit. However this Pathos song does not seem to create that impact at the first listen. May be on a longer run.

'Theeyae Theeyae' is a sexy fast paced number. Seems like a club dance number, which as per reports must have Isha Sherwani grooving to. The song hooks the listener giving a sensuous feel to it.

Song - Yaaro Yaaro
Singers – Karthik, Priya Himesh
Lyrics - Thamarai

'Yaaro Yaaro' is a slow sober number, sung by Karthik. The song does remind us of the 'Yemma Yemma' song from 7 aam arivu sung by SPB at the first hear.

Interestingly Thamarai who always pairs up with Harris to give us a feel good romantic slow or sexy number, has penned this sad song for the album.

Song - Kaal Mulaitha Poovae
Singers - Javed Ali & Mahalakshmi Iyer
Lyrics - Madhan Karky

'Kaal Mulaitha Poovae' starts with a track heavily inspired from the Hollywood movie Amélie and at places also reminds us of Rahman's Kannathil Muthamittal track 'Sundari'.

A supposedly romantic number, this song does not have much of clarity with Javed Ali's voice, whose Tamil pronunciation sounds not that good. His voice in fact reminds us of Udit Narayan, who has equal reputation of singing this way.
