Ganesh Visarjan is a happening celebration of immersing Ganesh Idols in to the water body such as lake, pond, river or sea. This ceremony is celebrated in a grand manner after a large procession.
Usually Ganesh Visarjan or Ganpati Visarjan takes place on the 3rd day from Ganesh Chaturthi, while in places like Mumbai, this ceremony takes place on the 11th day. This year with Vinayaka Chathurthi falling on the 9th of September, the Ganesh Visarajan is set to take place on the 18th of September 2013.
Huge Ganesh statues which would be kept for public viewing after the Ganesh Chaturthi, are usually immersed on Ananta Chaturdasi, which falls 10 days after the first day of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival.
Some even perform the Visarjan on select days, which is mostly on the odd numbers. For example Visarjan may take place on the 3rd, 5th, 7th or the 11th day.

Three day Ganesh Visarjan – September 11, 2013.
Five day Ganesh Visarjan – September 13, 2013.
Seven day Ganesh Visarjan – September 15, 2013.
Ananta Chaturdashi last day of Ganesh Visarjan – September 18, 2013.
Immersion of the Andhericha Raja - September 19, 2013.
India celebrates Ganesh Visarjan in a grand colorful manner, where huge crowd gathers together to dance, sing and play with colors as they bid adieu to their Lord Ganesh.
People join together in celebration on the streets, when the procession takes place and the crowd would chant Ganpati Bappa Moriya and witness the immersion of the idols.
Some of the best places in Mumbai to witness the grand Visarjan are Girgaum (Girgaon) Chowpatty on Marine Drive in south Mumbai. Juhu Beach in Mumbai's western suburbs is another popular place of immersion.
