| Renault to enter luxury car market with new sub brand INITIALE PARIS |
French automaker Renault is all set to make an important announcement at the upcoming Paris Motor Show 2012. Renault has decided to foray into luxury car segment which is currently being dominated by German players Mercedes, Audi and BMW. Renault will enter this competitive segment by collaborating with Daimler, the group which owns luxury car brand Mercedes. Renault builds the Citan panel van for Mercedes Benz and also supplies 1.5 liter K9K turbo diesel engine which will be used in entry level A-Class and B-Class hatchback cars. Moreover, Renault an Nissan will join hands will Mercedes to build the German giant's cars in low cost. In return Mercedes will share its technical expertise on how to build top notch Luxury Cars to Renault. There are possibilities for the two car makers to share platform as well. Renault is currently satisfying mid-level car buyers with its Clio, Fluence, Scenic, Koleos and Duster. The French automobile player has decided to compete at the higher level. Renault tried its hand in the luxury car segment a decade ago in the year 2002 by launching the Vel Satis. Though the car had many luxury comfort features, it did not make an impression with its handling, performance and ride quality. Renault's planned entry to the luxury car segment could be through the sub-brand Initiale Paris. Renault's cars made under Initiale Paris brand will share it parts with Mercedes Benz cars like the Nissan Infinit series cars sharing parts with the same German brand. More details will be revealed once Renault makes official announcement at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. |
