2012 Mahindra Quanto launch date :

The 2012 Mahindra Mini Xylo which was christened as 'Quanto' a few days earlier will be launched by the middle of September month according to the officials reports from homegrown auto major Mahindra and Mahindra.

Price expectation :

The Quanto will be Mahindra's first compact SUV and hence marks its foray into the quickly growing segment. The Quanto is based on the Xylo MPV platform and measures under four meters thereby qualifying for the excise duties applicable for the small cars. Mahindra has always been clever in making the pricing. The vehicle is expected to be launched somewhere around 5 to 6 lakhs.

Having this price range, the Quanto compact utility vehicle will compete with the hatchbacks in India. This means that the 2012 Quanto will offers more ground clearance and higher seating position at a price of an hatchback.

engine :

The Quanto makes use of a 1.5 Liter common rail, turbo diesel engine which is the downsized version of the mHawk 2.2 Liter engine which is used in the Scorpio, Xylo and XUV-500 SUV. This engine outputs peak power of 100 bhp and torque of 240 Nm.

Noise and vibration :

The questioning point is the 1.5 Liter turbo diesel engine with a three cylinder layout which is being produced by Mahindra on its own for the first time. This engine is expected to suffer from vibration and noise and it could be confirmed only when the Quanto in officially launched.

A five-speed manual transmission will be used and the interiors are being borrowed from the older version of the Xylo MPV. In general the Quanto compact SUV is a five seater, but Mahindra has made it as a seven seater with two side-facing seats at the back. So, the second SUV for the Indian market is all set to hit the showrooms soon while the third entry will be the Ford Ecosport crossover.
