Japanese motorcycle major Yamaha unveiled its first ever scooter model, the Yamaha Ray for India markets at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo in the month of January. Since then the scooter has been caught testing a couple of times and this time a few clear images have surfaced.
Speculations on the launch of this automatic scooter suggest that Yamaha Ray will be launched by the Diwali season of this year. Uncovered pictures of the Yamaha Ray doing testing rounds in India hints that this could be the production model and the launch is more likely to happen this year.
The Yamaha Ray is expected to be powered by a 125cc four stroke engine and could probably become the most powerful among the scooters in India when launched. The scooter doesn't look beefy and has sharp cuts on its body giving it a sporty look. The scooter will be targeted towards the youth lot (especially the womenfolk) in the country and will be competing with it country rival Honda Dio and Activa.
Telescopic forks takes care of the suspension duties in the front which will give the Ray a better handling while treading over uneven surfaces of Indian roads. Yamaha's strategy to aim at the women crowd is appreciable as TVS has reaped rich benefits following the same strategy. Yamaha Ray will be built in Surajpur manufacturing of the Japanese automaker in Uttar Pradesh.
