| Fiat to launch 500L based 7-seater MPV as Ertiga's rival |
Fiat 500L hatchback based MPV : The Fiat 500L MPV is nothing but a stretched version of the 500L hatchback. The extra length automatically gives more room space accommodating more passengers at the rear. The Fiat 500L MPV is expected to share the Fiat Punto platform. The seven seat 500L MPV seems to be a good bid for competing with Ertiga as people in India are opting for compact MPVs instead of C segment sedans. Fiat 500L MPV engine : Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the hot selling MPV in Indian markets as of now with the diesel variant of it leading the sales chart. Since Fiat supplies the 1.3 Liter Multijet turbo diesel engine for Ertiga, we can expect the same to be bolted into the 500L MPV's engine bay. Fiat 500L MPV vs Ertiga MPV : Fiat has no problems with the engine technology as it has the tested petrol and diesel engines which is doing the duties in the Ertiga MPV. The major factor to be kept in mind is the pricing. Fiat sells the 500L hatchback at a price of INR 15 lakhs. Since Fiat is bringing in the hatchback through CBU route, the pricing is so high. Fiat will look forward to bring in CKD assembly for the 500L based hatchback and the newly proposed MPV as well for reducing the cost. We have seen the response for a good priced and well planned compact MPV in Indian market in the form of Ertiga and hence Fiat will also be aiming to exploit the market. Fiat is also establishing independent dealerships in India and the Italian car maker's next step will be introducing fair priced products suiting the needs of Indian buyers. The Fiat 500L MPV seems to be a good idea and let us see how smartly Fiat shapes it up. |
