German luxury car maker Mercedes will launch the new B-class sports tourer in India in the month of September. In the meanwhile, as promised earlier Mercedes unveiled the B Class Sports Tourer on the 19th of July, 2012.

The B-class vehicle will be placed as the sports tourer model is the least priced offering from Mercedes to India. The B-class sports tourer is bigger version of an hatchback and can also be termed as a luxury MPV considering its spacious design and engine capability.

Mercedes Benz B-class sports tourer will be competing with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. For reducing the cost, the B-class sports tourer will be brought to India through CKD route and assembly will be done at the manufacturer's Chakan plant in Pune.

However, the initial units will be brought as completely built units only. The B-class sports tourer is expected to generate volume sales for the manufacturer. Initially, the B-class sports tourer will be offered only in petrol engine guise and later diesel engine models will be introduced to boost the sales.

The sports tourer is targeted at the younger car buyers and will be priced competitively to give the Audi Q3 and BMW Xi a run for their money. The B-class sports tourer is based on Mercedes' MFA platform and is also established as the luxury MPV in European markets. Now, this should give you an idea of what to expect from this vehicle.

Coming to the dimensions of the car, the B-class sports tourer though measuring only 4.3 meters, has a planned design to offer more space in the inside. The car will seat five adults and the rear set passengers get more comfortable headroom space due to slightly arched roof.



Mercedes Benz B-class Sports Tourer engine :

The vehicle comes with a front wheel drive system. The petrol engine of the car is expected to be the 1.6 Liter turbocharged unit offered in two states of tune 120 Bhp and 155 Bhp.

The expected 1.8 liter four cylinder diesel unit is also available in two states of tune, 108 Bhp and 135 Bhp. Coming to the transmission portion, the B-class MPV might come with six-speed manual and seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

It is a known fact that Mercedes is piling up strong hopes upon this model for generating volume sales and hence expect the price to be competitive. As per the guess works, the 2012 Mercedes Benz B-Class Sports tourer might be price around 24 to 26 lakhs.

Aiming to boost volume sales with the B-class Sports Tourer the German automobile giant has planned to collaborate movie stars to promote the new model. Mercedes has planned adventure sport event named the 'Ultimate Touring Trail' which allows participants to take part in it along with celebrities from Bollywood.

Bollywood stars Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia D'Souza, Kalki Koechlin and Gaurav Kapoor will be the celebrities with whom the participants will get a chance to participate with. This new promotional strategy is mainly to attract younger buyers to the brand.

• The contest's jury members will shortlist 50 entries
• Users will vote for favourite entries
