|List of MPVs to be launched in India for the year 2012|
The year 2012 will have a list of MPVs arriving to Indian shores as the Indian market has always been a healthy platform for fair-priced and performing MPVs. A good example is the Mahindra XUV-500 SUV which was a runaway hit in India. When the price and performance are at an optimum level, Indian buyers are ready to compromise with the top class comfort features.
Let us look at list list of MPVs which will occupy the Indian roads this year.
2012 Toyota Innova :
The facelift version of the super-hit Innova MPV has only cosmetic touches and no mechanical changes. Wood works have been done in the dashboard and along with the sides. In the exterior front new taillights, head lights, chrome grille and bumpers have been added.
The powerhouse will have turbocharged, intercooled D-4D, 2 Liter diesel engine which will be mated with 5 speed manual gearbox.
2012 Maruti Ertiga MPV :
Being the first ever MPV from the small car specialist Maruti, the Ertiga is one among the most awaited MPVs in India. The Ertiga will also have a diesel engine and is designed based on the Maruti Ritz platform.
Ertiga will be powered by Fiat engine and 1.4 liter K-series petrol engine is also on offer. Both the petrol and diesel engine will have three variants each. The LXi, VXi and ZXi will be the petrol variants, while LDi, VDi and ZDi will be the diesel variants.
Airbags and anti-lock braking system will be a part of the standard kit for top variants. Etriga MOV's launch might be between the months of March and April 2012.
2012 Chevrolet Wuling CN100 MPV :
Chevrolet's CN100 will mark the entry of Chevrolet into the MPV market. The Wuling CN100 is Chevrolet's collaboration with Chinese company Wuling-SAIC. Chevrolet has been selling this MPV under its badge in several emerging markets and the entry in India will be by the mid of 2012. CN100 MPV will be taking on the likes of Innova and Xylo and Tata Sumo Grande
The engine on offer will be a 1.3 Liter Mutlijet diesel from Fiat. Chevrolet might not launch a petrol variant for the same as diesel engines are the most preferred by buyers.
2012 Mahindra Xylo Mini :
Mahindra Xylo Mini is the short version of the Xylo MPV. The car falls under 4 meters and will enjoy the tax reductions. The Xylo mini will be competing with hatchback cars in the market, while the Xylo will take on the sedans. The mini Xylo will have the shortened engine version of its brother Xylo.
The Mini Xylo will have a small 1.5 Liter mEagle Motor which is the three pot version of the 2.2 Liter mEagle CRDe engine which does the duties in Xylo. A 1.2 liter three cylinder engine might also be available.
The launch is expected in the 2012 Diwali season and the price might be placed around 5 lakhs. Despite of being a competitor for hatchbacks, the Mini Xylo accommodates 5 adults and has a good ground clearance.
2012 Nissan Evalia MPV :
The Nissan NV200 will be launched in the name of Evalia for Indian market. Nissan will produce this MPV in collaboration with Ashok Leyland and will be produced in the Ashok Leyland plant, while the distribution will be done through the exiting Nissan dealerships.
Evalia is powered by a 1.5 Liter K9K engine, but the power capacity might be 85 Bhp and 200Nm torque or 105 Bhp and 240 nm of torque. Nissan might choose either of these during the launch. The Evalia can seat 7 adults and has sliding doors.
Ashok Leyland Stile :
The Stile MPV will be the Ashok Leyland's version of Evalia. The commercial vehicle specialist will have the designing done by their own design team. Stile will hold Italian looks. Stile MPV will have the same 1.5 Liter K9K diesel engine as that of the Evalia and a CNG version will be offered in the Stile MPV.
All these MPVs will race for the top position in the ongoing year. Innova has an upper hand as it holds proved engine. Buyers will also have an idea to try their hand in some other brands. Xylo will have the same advantage, but the power-reduced engine must be tested on roads to prove its performance.
